The increased rise in seemingly paranormal violence by young people over the past decade may be a natural progression of trickle down aggression called mobbing in the workplace. Mobbing is the current term given to the acts of targeting a worker by a supervisor or manager for what amounts to a dog-pile of mean and vicious workplace tricks for the purpose of debilitating the worker.
Most often the objective is to force the worker to resign, but other objectives include personal sadistic satisfaction by workplace supervisors in maintaining their sphere of influence. In answer to this increasing phenomena, The Workplace Bullying Institute was founded to assist victims of bullying and create grassroots support for legislation which would legally ban bullying in the workplace.
It is estimated by the Institute that bullying and mobbing due to its complexities outweigh harassment in the workplace which is prohibited by most state human rights laws because bullying is most typically a same-sex event. In general work place harassment and sexual harassment covers opposite sex illegal activity which creates an atmosphere of negative animus for a particular worker.
It is a different kind of harassment, the bully in the workplace is most likely to be a woman 58 percent of the time as opposed to the man ranking 43 percent of the time. The key to bullying and mobbing is the utilization of “others” to accomplish the bullying plan by the supervisor or manager.
According to the Institute, bullying and mobbing is more likely to occur between women, accounting for nearly 50 percent of all reported cases. Man on women bullying occurs about 30 percent of the time and man on man occurs about 12 percent of the time.
